Workshop One : Visual Art - Image manipulation

This was our first Visual art lesson and we focused on images and how we can manipulate them using Photoshop. I have only ever used photo shop once before I am not all the confident with it but the task wasn’t hard and as I had done this task previously in EEA211 I was able to help other struggling students.

In today’s lesson I realised how hard teaching photo shop can be, the program is easy once you get your head around it but those who are beginners it’s very difficult. I wondered if I would be able to teach the task we did today to primary school students, they would have to be grade 5/6 as I don’t any younger year than that would understand. I thought that yes I could teach it, I would have to be very well organised though, and I would have to have instructions with screen shot images printed, with very clear step by step basic instructions. I would also need to have a computer hooked up to the big screen so students could follow along as I demonstrated.

I really enjoyed this lesson I had heaps of fun helping and creating images using Photoshop

Workshop Two : Lesson Plan

I was away this week so I have created a lesson plan for an art lesson

Teaching Focus: To encourage and develop confidence in the students to create unique art pieces. Ensure the students don’t hold back with this task out of fear of failing that they would explore, take risks and have a go!			Student Learning Focus: To create an art piece that is unique and tells the viewer who the artist is visually. Using two art mediums
Resources: ANYTHING!			VELS: Creating and making At Level 4, students independently and collaboratively experiment with and apply a. They investigate a range of sources to generate ideas and manipulate arts elements, principles and/or conventions in a range of arts disciplines and forms as they explore the potential of ideas. In their arts works, they communicate ideas and understandings about themselves and others, incorporating influences from their own and other cultures and times. They evaluate the effectiveness of their arts works and make changes to realise intended aims. They consider purpose and suitability when they plan and prepare arts works for presentation to a variety of audiences. Exploring and responding At Level 4, students discuss traditional and contemporary arts works using appropriate arts language to describe the content, structure and expressive qualities of their own and other people’s works from a range of arts disciplines and forms. They interpret and compare key features of arts works made in a range of times, places and cultures. They identify and describe influences on their own works and discuss the purposes for which arts works are created in different historical and cultural contexts.
THE TASK: Students will create a “me box”. Each student will be given a small brown box and will have design the box using all different art mediums to describe them. AS if they were going to give the box to a complete stranger and the stranger be able to find out information about the student just by looking at the box. Students can decorate using their favourite colours, sports, activities, food, family photos. There is no limit of what can go on the box !

Body of the Lesson:	Part : 10- 10.40am :	With student visual diaries students’ are to start drafting and thinking about important. Have work sheet of  thinking questions
Lesson Closure	Whole: 10.40-11.00am	Reflection tube: In a circle kids rolls the tube to each other, with reflective questions in it. randomly pick one then have to write a sentence in folio
Assessment: Mostly Formative assessment, i will assess the children as we go through conversation and observations and through reflective floor discussion. Students folios and art pieces will be assessed Students will complete a self reflection in there folio.

Workshop Three : Using Art in everyday Teaching

      NOTE TO SHARE Today in class we went through how to use the apple Ipad App “note to share”. The note to share is a photography app; student can take photos or collect images from Google and make a collage with text. The app layers text over images selected, this is a great app for making collage type projects, inspiration pin boards, learning goals, learning intentions, Writing stories, poems or just displaying students work. This app is very simple to use so students from grade 3 up would be capable of using it. Once again I would give very basic, simple instructions. I wouldn’t give too much away with the creative side as I would want the students to use their own creativity and to create the image. The best thing with an activity like this is that all the children can work at their own pace.
